Birmingham – A City in the Making will be presented across 1040 square metres of display space, with enhanced environmental and lighting control.

The displays will use new technology and multi-layered interpretation to provide interactive and engaging displays for all visitors, families and schools. The galleries will be supported by educational resources, formal learning and events programmes.

The project will include the renovation and structural development of new and existing top floor galleries, including the reinstatement of the original Grade II* listed building structure. An oculus skylight will be created at roof level, opening up the space and bringing natural light into a new reception and orientation area. This will dramatically improve access and orientation for visitors and restore the architectural integrity of the building.

New accessible toilets, baby changing facilities and buggy storage will ensure that visiting the galleries is an easy and enjoyable experience.
